Jerry Yan's lead drama "The Hospital" suffered a slump in the viewer's ratings when it was aired in mainland China. Yesterday, a mainland Chinese resource person revealed that it was because of the earlier incident during the F4 tourism promo in Japan and Korea where they called Taiwan a "country" in their press conference. The mainland side had no choice but to keep it low-keyed and cancel the earlier broadcast schedule and all production promotions, but still it was just natural to bring negative impact at the ratings results.
Shanghai's Dragon TV Channel won the expensive exclusive rights for the showing of "The Hospital," however, the highest average ratings it got on its early nights is only 2%, and according to Shanghai media standards, it is a "tragic and quiet ending" With regards to the mainland China side, its "zero production promotions" and that "country slipped words" incident and related rumors just like the "secrets that must not be told" should not hope for a positive response. According to sources, Dragon TV is also suffering, since they spent a huge amount of money, and actually bears their unexpected misfortune.
When The Hospital director Cai Yue Xun heard about this yesterday, he was helpless and unusually astounded, softly wondered why but couldn't find the answer.
In addition, the mainland side also analyzed that The Hospital was aired early. Copies of the series were also earlier downloaded on-line and its DVD is already available at Taiwan. "Most of the viewers had already watched it.' The golden broadcast time in mainland is every 11 pm, also the main reason why the ratings have been affected.

TH's average rating on Shanghai Dragon TV was 5% with the highest at 7% and the big ending was only 2%. This 2% coincide with China's long national holiday in October where the professionals & white collar workers who watched TH goes for vacations in contrast to Dragon's tv other dramas which average 10%. Also, when TH was aired in Taiwan, there were already pirated copies of it available in China & downloading by internet, thereby affecting its ratings in China.
When The Hospital was first screened in Taiwan, it reached 3 digits ratings, considering the medium level of Taiwan dramas
(fatty2: 3 is consider very good already as TH was not shown during weekend nites which is for idol dramas. TH was shown during Taiwan tv golden timeslot of weekday 8pm, head on with the extremely popular Tw soap operas. it wld be unfair to take TH & compared it with idol dramas rating as idol dramas are shown during Sunday nite in a less competitive timeslot).
TH is described as a well-crafted tale of power struggle and relationships in a hospital, very different from MG, which is an idol drama of rich guy meets poor girl. Jerry's acting skills in TH was very much focused on and excepting for the fact of the length of his hair is not really suitable, Jerry's acting is praised, especially during episodes involving emotional scenes & his confrontation scene with Leon Dai, his acting was considered to be brilliant.
Jerry's fame & popularity & his position as No. 1 is such that BOF producer is willing to change the script for Jerry if only Jerry wld agree to acting in BOF with Wu Zun.
Jerry has met up in Hong Kong with HK's 3 giants of movies, Wang Jia Wei, Stanley Kuan & William Chang for a 6 hours discusion. Matt Cheng , Jerry's manager, has refused to reveal anything excepting that Jerry will be focusing on movies next year.
TH copyrights was brought by Japan's NHK & TH's dvd were no. 1 in sales on HMV.
