F4 to Formally Disband in October

Friday August, 31 2007

Taiwan's popular boy band F4 will become history as the lead singer Jerry Yan will leave the current company soon, the Fujian-based Southeast Express reports on Friday.

The pop singer and actor's contract with Wu Fu Long Production Company will come to an end in October, and it has been confirmed that he will not renew the contract. Jerry Yan launched his own studio "Star Jerry" back in 2005.

In order to develop his market in Japan, he signed in secret with Japanese Top boy group SMAP's agent Johnny and Associates to act as his new manager in June, thus becoming Kimura Takuya's junior colleague.

The other members of the group, including Ken Chu and Vanness Wu, will also face decisions regarding their contracts soon. Vanness Wu has already decided that he will not renew his contract at the end of this year, while Ken Chu also admitted that he was considering leaving.

Only Vic Chou will continue to work with the current agency, says the report.

The boy group swept Southeast Asia with their popular youth idol TV drama "Meteor Garden", and since 2000 the members have pursued their own career paths.

The annual Asia Song Festival will bring 14 top stars from nine Asian countries to Seoul this year. ``The 2007 Asia Song Festival,'' scheduled for Sept. 22 at Sangam World Cup Stadium, will feature popular South Korean boy bands such as SG Wannabe and Super Junior.

Pretty boys will fly into Seoul en masse from other countries although the Japanese line-up has yet to be confirmed. ``Golf & Mike,'' idol duo hailing from Thailand, also enjoys popularity in Japan. Vietnamese singer Lam Truong once sang a Vietnamese version of ``Forever,'' a song from ``Korean Wave'' star Ahn Jae-wook. Peter Pan, meanwhile, is a six-piece pop rock band from Indonesia.

F4 (L) and Super Junior

At the festival, fans will also be able to compare female pop stars from five countries. From South Korea, actress and singer Lee Hyo-lee, who mainly sells her sexy image, will perform on stage. From mainland China comes Vicki Zhao, also a popular actress and singer who won the ``Favorite Artist Mainland China'' from 2006 MTV Asia Awards. A-mei, the ``pride of Taiwan,'' has been a pop diva in the Mandarin-speaking world for more than a decade. Gigi Leung is a veteran Hong Kong actress and singer, while Barbie Almalbiz, a songwriter and folk rock singer from the Philippines, enjoys huge popularity in her home country.

JVKV, better known as F4, are four Taiwanese heartthrobs also well-known in South Korea for the hit Taiwanese drama series ``Meteor Garden,'' which is based on a popular Japanese manga and aired here on a cable channel. They will appear as special guests during the show.

F4's questionable speech criticisms had reached Japan
where these web users expressed their rebuttal discussion

Because F4 earlier presented Taiwan as "our country" , Mainland webusers got fumed. But because F4 also has a considerably wide fan base in Japan, this incident also triggered a wave of local forum discussions.

At the Japanese TV Channel 2 website forum board, almost all users criticized those people directing comments against F4, saying that there was nothing wrong with what F4 said, and called that there was no need for them to apologize for what they said, They even said that the Japanese government also relayed support for F4. In addition, some were not satisfied with just words and said that these web-users must be arrested as punishment.

F4's Propaganda, Saying Taiwan Is A "State",Was Strongly Denounced by Chinese Net Users

Taiwan's Tourism Ambassador F4's careless talks on Taiwan as a "state" triggered condemnation among chinese on-line users, their commercials were blocked online and their official website were placed with black "X" marks.

In March this year, -F4 (Jerry),( Vanness), (Zaizai) and (Ken) was invited to Japan and South Korea as Taiwan Tourism ambassadors. Three of them Jerry, Vanness & Zaizai claimed Taiwan is a "state", in some fragments of their tourism commercial, causing online chinese users to be extremely disgusted , and some decided to protest, and boycott anything or any products related to F4 as a punishment.

Recently, there was a furor over another Taiwanese artist, Jay Chou, during his movie promo in China, when he was asked about well known historical communist figure in China, Lei Fung and made wrong comments about the historical figure.Even when he publicly apologized, he was not yet forgiven. Earlier Mike He and Yang Chenglin's broadcast of their new series was suspended, due to Cheng Lin's previous remarks on Nanjing massacre. In addition, when Vicky Zhao Wei wore a Japanese flag during a concert, it stirred a storm on the mad crowd....
